Recently, Kevin Seelig, co-owner of the Freedom Boat Club of Northeast Florida, was nominated to join the Shake-A-Leg Miami Board of Directors. This new nomination has many Miami residents anticipating what’s to come for the South Florida-bound non-profit organization.

The Freedom Boat Club

The Freedom Boat Club, under Brunswick ownership, remains the biggest membership-based boating society worldwide. Serving as a replacement option for owning a boat, the club has offered boating services free of hassle since 1989. The Freedom Boat Club also provides limitless accessibility at its four Florida-established locations, Beach Marine in Jacksonville Beach and Julington Creek Marina in Jacksonville alongside The St. Augustine Shipyards and Camachee Cove Marina in St. Augustine. Members can also receive mutual access to more than 415 spots in Australia, Canada, Europe, and the United States (US). With stress-free boating, Florida residents can select from various membership options. Seelig currently stands as one of the club’s co-owners in Northeast Florida.

Shake-A-Leg Miami Nominates Kevin Seelig

Shake-A-Leg Miami is a non-profit organization in South Florida. Co-founder and President Harry Horgan established the initiative in 1990 to improve education, health, and independence for adults and children who face economic, developmental, and physical complications.

The organization aims to help struggling individuals across Miami by introducing them to aquatic environments through boating, canoeing, sailing, and various other water-related activities and sports. Seelig was nominated to Shake-A-Leg Miami’s Board of Directors by Horgan himself.

Kevin Seelig Shares Thoughts Following His Nomination

Upon Horgan’s selection, Seelig shared his feelings following the nomination. He explained how he is “deeply honored to be nominated to serve on the board of directors for Shake-A-Leg Miami.” In accepting this designation, Seelig also states that the organization’s “dedication to empowering individuals of all abilities through marine-based programs aligns closely with [his] passion for boating and community engagement.” He looks forward to assisting Shake-A-Leg Miami as they realize their mission: to help the program broaden the available opportunities for those in need.

Initially, Seelig connected with Shake-A-Leg as a child. His first experiences with the non-profit occurred while he was a summer camper. Soon after, he began volunteering at the organization before transitioning to a regular employee until he turned 18. Through Shake-A-Leg, Seelig garnered countless valuable lessons while gaining crucial skills he still utilizes. Giving thanks to Shake-A-Leg for extending him a place to grow and thrive, it’s understandable that a full-circle moment like his nomination would come to fruition.

Horgan also shared his reasoning behind selecting Seelig. “Kevin’s journey with Shake-A-Leg Miami—from camper to staff member to Board of Directors—is a testament to his passion and dedication.” Horgan wholeheartedly believes that Seelig’s “life experiences and leadership embody the heart” of Shake-A-Leg. “We are honored to have him on our board, helping us create even greater opportunities for the community we serve,” the non-profit co-founder and president added.

Kevin Seelig’s Contributions to Freedom Boat Club and Beyond

While studying at the University of North Florida (UNF), where he received his Bachelor’s degree in economics, Seelig simultaneously initiated his work with Freedom Boat Club as a dock manager. Upon graduating from UNF, he would become the co-owner of the Northeast-based Freedom Boat Club within the state. This sector of the boating club extends to four locations across St. Augustine and Jacksonville.

Seelig additionally serves as a managing member and co-owner of Red Bird Boats, which has eleven Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania-bound franchises. Furthermore, he is an investor and partner in Victor Marine, which operates fourteen sites throughout Washington state.

What’s Next for Shake-A-Leg Miami with Kevin Seelig?

As Kevin Seelig celebrates this Board of Directors nomination, he continues to showcase his stalwart leadership efforts at Freedom Boat Club. Seelig and his boating association donated a 2021 Sweetwater 2286 Tritoon boat, sitting at 22 feet with a Mercury 150 motor, to Shake-A-Leg Miami last year.

Seelig also plans to arrange for Brunswick, the corporate owner of the boat club, to help with supply donations through two subsidiaries. With all of these plans in the works, the future of Shake-A-Leg Miami seems bright after Kevin Seelig’s nomination.
