Hyatt’s Thompson brand has announced it will be opening a location in Miami Beach, Florida this summer. Currently, the lifestyle hotel has locations in Chicago, New York City, Palm Springs, Savannah, and Nashville, with its Miami Beach location being the brand’s newest hotel in one of the most popular destinations in the United States.

Thompson Miami Beach Location and Rates

Set to open in June 2025 and located in Miami Beach’s City Center neighborhood on 17th Street and Washington Avenue, Thompson Miami Beach is accepting reservations starting on June 1, 2025. The property has rates starting at around $250 per night or 21,000 World of Hyatt points per night. For reference, the property will be considered a “Category 6 hotel” under Hyatt’s booking standards.

A Modern Design for Lasting Growth

Designed by French architect Rudy Ricciotti, Thompson’s new 147-room location will mark the brand’s 22nd hotel worldwide, part of an ongoing campaign of recent openings. It’s just a few blocks from the beach, and perfect for a local shopping and dining experience.

An Intentional and Natural Design

Rooms in Thompson Miami Beach range from 289-square-foot standard rooms to 723-square-foot king suites, each outfitted with mid-century modern, South American-inspired furnishings designed by Los Angeles-based designer Gulla Jónsdóttir. Each room will have Sferra bed linens, floor-to-ceiling windows, a private balcony or terrace, and local bath products.

Nature is a core theme of Thompson Miami Beach, with Jónsdóttir’s designs serving to integrate greenery as a contrast to neutral tones in various elements of the hotel’s design. The hotel’s atrium will be filled with green plants, whether hanging from the walls or growing from carefully placed pots throughout the space.

Dining at the Hotel

Thompson Miami Beach will also feature an on-site restaurant, the Signature Restaurant, which will feature indoor, outdoor, and poolside seating and will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In addition, guests can expect a lobby bar with signature cocktails, as well as Miami’s stunning views from the property’s rooftop pool.

“We’re thrilled to introduce Thompson Miami Beach,” Thompson Miami Beach general manager Karan Kakar told The Points Guy, “a chic and eclectic new addition to the destination. Seamlessly blending tropical modernism and South American flair throughout its design, the property will debut a Miami-inspired ambiance with unforgettable experiences that bring the Thompson ethos to life.”

A Period of Change for Hyatt in Miami Beach

Overall, Hyatt’s expansion into Miami Beach has been full of changes. As recently as 2016, there was a Thompson Miami Beach hotel in the city, but this was later converted into another Hyatt brand.

This original property opened in the 1950s as the 18-floor Lord Tarleton Hotel on Collins Avenue, then reopened in 1955 as the Crown Hotel, and was subsequently converted into an apartment building. In 2014, it was rebranded as the Thompson Miami Beach Hotel, and in 2016 it became The Confidante. After a remodeling process to be completed a few months before the opening of the new Thompson location, the hotel will again be reopened as Andaz Miami Beach.

Returning Thompson to Miami Beach

Due to this series of changes, Hyatt must have felt that it was the right time to bring the Thompson brand back to Miami Beach. Andaz Miami Beach covers the beachfront hotel experience for Hyatt, while the Thompson will serve as a gathering point for popular Southern Florida events.

“From sipping a cocktail in the Atrium Garden to enjoying coastal French cuisine at the rooftop restaurant overlooking Miami’s Art Deco architecture,” Kakar continued, “Thompson Miami Beach will be a space for affluent travelers and locals alike to connect and take part in Miami Beach’s renaissance.”
