Lady Gaga’s April 11 and April 18 performances at Coachella may give her “little monsters” a sense of what to expect from her upcoming summer “Mayhem” tour. This is her second appearance at Coachella, the iconic music and arts festival held yearly at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. This time, she has promised fans a “massive night of chaos” for Coachella.

What to Expect at Coachella

Given Lady Gaga’s penchant for high production and dramatic staging, fans look forward to seeing what she will bring to Coachella. Her previous appearance at the desert venue occurred in 2017, when she stepped in at the last minute to replace Beyoncé, who had stepped away due to her pregnancy. That summer, Lady Gaga featured songs from her recently released album, “Joanne.”

Fans may not be sure what to expect—other than the promised chaos. Lady Gaga’s music and artistic staging range widely in style and mood, from the icy poise of her Chromatica Ball to the darker steampunk-and-goth aesthetic of her newest album.

The Mayhem Tour

That album is Mayhem, just released on March 7 by Streamline and Interscope Records. The album has been described as a “chaotic blur of genres” but is primarily synth-pop, infused with influences from industrial dance, electro, disco, rock, and funk. It features songs like “Abracadabra” and “Die With a Smile.” Lady Gaga’s Mayhem Ball tour, promoting the album, will start in Las Vegas on July 16 and continue across 45 shows. (Lady Gaga originally planned 32 dates but increased the number due to high demand.)

Unlike Lady Gaga’s Chromatica Ball in 2022, the Mayhem Ball Tour will focus on arena appearances, visiting six cities in North America before hopping across the pond to the UK and continental Europe.

“This is my first arena tour since 2018,” Lady Gaga has shared. “There’s something electric about a stadium, and I love every moment of those shows. But with The Mayhem Ball, I wanted to create a different kind of experience—something more intimate—closer, more connected—that lends itself to the live theatrical art I love to create.”

The album’s new Gothic feel has many speculating about the tour and what Gaga’s signature theatricality will look like this time.
