An exciting new Miami restaurant focuses on more than just food: Log Fire Signature is all about the fire. From Chef Calvin Daniele, Log’s dishes are nearly all made on a wood fire grill, reminiscent of Chef Daniele’s childhood in Argentina.
Located in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood next to Beaker & Gray, Log Fire Signature recently opened its doors to the public. The wood fire grills at Log are fired up to create meat dishes, breads, pitas, and pizzas. The ovens, which reach up to 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit, are powered by red oak, which Chef Daniele prefers for the umami flavor it imbues the food.
“Many of my memories were made by the grill, and I wanted to recreate that storytelling experience with Log,” he commented. Chef Daniele started his professional career in his native Argentina at the popular restaurant Orilla. From there, he moved to Miami, where he worked at restaurants Tigre and Walrus Rodeo. A similar type of wood fire oven is used at Walrus Rodeo, created by Chefs Luciana Giangrandi and Alex Meyer, the same team behind the Michelin-star restaurant Boia De.
Chef Daniele created the menu at Log with the special grill in mind. Approximately 90% of the menu is cooked on the wood fire grill. Log’s dishes are made for sharing, featuring specialties like wagyu beef tartare with mandioca chips, wood-fired oysters with thermidor sauce, grilled langoustines in chili oil and garlic aioli, and charred cabbage with mint and salsa verde. A variety of pizzas, like the leek pizza with Italian cow’s milk cheese, mozzarella, and pancetta, and skirt steak dishes are also available, straight from the wood fire grill. The popular Peco Pavlova, a pecorino cheese-flavored pavlova with ice cream, mascarpone cheese, and preserved peaches, stuns for dessert.
The atmosphere at Log is just as special as the menu. The interior is predictably rustic but with an upscale flourish and features several log-themed decorations. Exposed brick fireplaces add a cozy touch. The 4,500-square-foot space holds 90 diners in the main dining room and 40 additional customers in a private dining area. The chic, eye-catching bar decorated with hanging plants serves a range of exclusive cocktails like a Smoky Old Fashioned and the Log Martini, which puts a sweeter spin on the classic vodka drink. An extensive list of champagne, wine, and beer is also available.
The Wynwood neighborhood of Miami that Log calls home is one of the city’s most exciting districts. Known for its rich arts culture, highlights of Wynwood include the Wynwood Walls, an outdoor museum showcasing large-scale murals from some of the world’s best-known street artists. Wynwood also houses several art galleries, craft breweries, fashion boutiques, and stylish bars and restaurants. The thriving neighborhood features prolific and celebrated restaurants like Doma, Uchi, Hiyakawa, and Beaker & Gray, which is next door to Log.
