Inspired by a Love of Pickleball and Friendship
Pickleball Twist™ began as a passion project between longtime friends who simply wanted to create something joyful. Their vision was straightforward: design a product that encourages people to put their phones away, engage with one another, and create lasting memories through play.
That vision aligns closely with the brand’s mission: to champion the joy of unplugged play by creating artful, fun-filled products that celebrate friendship, inspire laughter, and build community in the real world.
The founders understand firsthand why social experiences matter. Danny Reed has spent more than a decade at YouTube leading technology partnerships and helping develop meaningful products and experiences. Through Pickleball Twist™, he embraced the opportunity to build something intentionally offline that encourages people to connect face-to-face.
His co-founder, Dr. Janet Tomiyama, is the Marcie H. Rothman Presidential Chair of Food Studies at UCLA and a professor in the Department of Psychology. Her research explores how social factors influence well-being, stress, and overall quality of life. She incorporated principles of positive psychology into Pickleball Twist™, helping shape an experience that emphasizes enjoyment, connection, and shared experiences.
A Product Designed for Social Play
Pickleball Twist™ was created with recreational players in mind. The deck appeals to adults ranging from their twenties to their sixties who play for fun, exercise, and community. From promotional content to beta testing, the product grew through collaboration and shared enthusiasm for pickleball.
